New York Times Award In June we were selected as the gold prize winner for Overall Management Excellence in the 2010 New York Times Management Excellence Awards! SNLP was awarded first out of 89 New York area non-profits in a highly competitive process. We are honored to be in the company of the Silver Prize winner, God's Love We Deliver, and the Bronze Prize winner, New York Lawyers for the Public Interest. Check out photos from the ceremony here!

Excellence in Summer Learning SNLP has been honored with the 2010 Excellence in Summer Learning Award from the National Association for Summer Learning. This annual award recognizes summer programs that demonstrate excellence in accelerating academic achievement and promoting healthy development for young people. Setting the PASE On January 26, 2010, Program Director Shreya Janssens-Sannon was honored by the Partnership for After School Education at the 12th annual PASEsetter Awards, an evening celebration with over 300 in attendance. PASE says of this award: “Chosen from hundreds of nominations, the five PASEsetter Award Winners exemplify the dedication, innovation, and accomplishment that is the hallmark of the New York City afterschool field.”  For this award, SNLP also received a $5,000 reward!

Local (S)hero SNLP Executive Director and Founder, Cecilia Clarke, was honored by Bank of America as a “Local Hero” at an evening ceremony in November 2008. “Heroes” are individuals who champion causes vital to their communities and inspire others to get involved. For this award, Cecilia received a $5,000 grant to be used towards SNLP’s work. Cecilia was also interviewed on 1010 WINS about this honor, where she discussed SNLP’s growth from starting SNLP in her dining room to a now 8 year old sustainable organization.

Sadie Nash on TV! Nashers who were trained through SNLP’s My Body, My Choice: Health Leadership Training program (funded by the Lalor Foundation) were invited to be guests on an episode of the Tyra Banks Show which aired fall 2008. They were invited to discuss how young women can more effectively teach peers about healthy relationships and sex education.

Eileen Fisher Fall Shopping Event In September of 2007 Eileen Fisher Inc selected SNLP as their philanthropic partner for their huge Fall Shopping Event. 10% of all proceeds at all 8 metro area stores were donated to SNLP raising over $32,000 for SNLP. Thank you Eileen Fisher!

Celebrating our 5th Anniversary Sadie Nash celebrated its 5th year Anniversary in Spring 2007 with a major event called Rise Up(!) and Shine featuring 5 amazing women Leaders on 5 different evenings (at 5 beautiful homes). The 5 Leaders included Alice Walker, Vanita Gupta, Cecile Richards, Carrie Mae Weems, and Yomara Velez. Photos at right.

Nashers on the Radio! Nashers Vivienne Layne and Leanne Sajor were interviewed in Fall 2005 about their work at their CAP sites, PEP ( Pro-Choice Education Project ) and CHAMP (Community HIV/AIDS Mobilization Project) on Rise Up Radio, a program of WBAI/Pacifica Radio. Rise Up Radio is a radio show produced by youth highlighting youth activism.

Teen Dating Violence Kamilah, a Nasher from 2003-2005, wrote an article about teen dating violence for her LAP project. It was published in the New York Women's Foundation's annual newsletter. Click here to read it

SNLP was named a Community Champion by New York Newsday in May 2005. Titled "Inspiring Young Women to be Catalysts for Social Change” this full page article was featured in their Sunday edition.
