HOME FOR ACTIVISM 2025: HOMECOMING
Thank you so much for attending Home for Activism 2025: Homecoming Week! For the first time ever, we merged our Alumni Week programming with our signature Home for Activism event to create Home for Activism: Homecoming—a three-day virtual and in-person celebration by and for SNLP alumni.
Heartfelt thanks to our incredible guest speakers, Ashley Abid, Jenna Caldwell, Charmaine Gentles and our amazing MC and moderator Lorena Estrella. I’m inspired by the power and wisdom demonstrated by Nashers and alums.

HOMECOMING WEEK WORKSHOPS
Leading up to Home for Activism, we invited Nashers and alumni of all ages to join us for an amazing series of workshops led by alumni, for alumni. Here are the full descriptions of workshops below:
Maternal Healthcare--Unedited led by Fatoumata Soumahoro - Monday, January 13
This workshop covers the black maternal health crisis in America. It will bring awareness to the alarming rates that women of color, specifically black women, are dying at in hospital settings. The idea is to inform and engage participants on the nature of the epidemic and then to follow with actionable steps including writing letters to local and state representatives.
Know Your Worth: Salary Negotiation Strategies led by Ashley Abid - Tuesday, January 14
This workshop will empower participants to feel confident in conversations centered around wage or salary negotiations, educate on basic tops for the negotiation process, and encourage participants to apply these tips when applicable during their career journey and give tangible ways in advocating for their compensations.
Self-Care IS Community Care led by Dr. D Tejada - Wednesday, January 15
This session will use Black feminist care ethics and the dimensions of wellness to help participants craft wellness plans that will encourage them to commit to and be intentional about their wellness as an organizing tool.
“At Sadie Nash, home represents a soft place to land, where young people can join our programs and safely be in community and become their own selves. And to find home, we must create it.”
- Tené Howard, Executive Director
Inspired by bell hook’s Homeplace: A Site of Resistance, the concept of “home” is described as a space where one can flourish and become the subject in one’s own life rather than an object for someone else. For two decades, Sadie Nash has been a home for the radical work of gender and racial justice, creating a container for the brilliance and dynamism of young people.
We provide opportunities for young people to step into their confidence and purpose, encouraging them to experiment and evolve into the best version of themselves. In November of 2022, we held our first Home for Activism event featuring a conversation between ELLA alums, Rana Abdelhamid and Imani Maliti, and moderated by Sadie Nash alum Jenna Caldwell. In November of 2023, we launched our Alumni Council and it included a panel of alumni Talia Scott, Najah Aldridge, and Nicolas Cortez, moderated by Rasha Kadir.
